How to Make Decisions & Become More Decisive

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. What’s your decision-making style? Do you shoot first and ask questions later, or does the thought of making a decision leave you paralyzed? If you are the latter, you have to understand that even indecision is still a decision, so how can we get better? The first step in any journey is often the most difficult one. The most difficult part of creating a lasting change is finally deciding to take action.

Often times, we know that we want a change in our lives. We know that we’re unhappy, unsatisfied, and unfulfilled; we know that we should change, but that change doesn’t seem like a must.

What we should do and what we must do are two different things. It’s like anything else you tell yourself…“I should stop wasting money,” "I should make my boundaries clear,“ "I should eat healthier foods,” "I should keep him/her blocked," “I should exercise more,” etc.

After a while, you feel like shit because you’ve put everything off for so long, but once we begin to associate enough pain with our current situation and then equate immense pleasure with our new outcome, we are able to turn our shoulds into musts. This is a pivotal point. This is when you are compelled to take action.

Then, it becomes…“I must stop wasting money,” "I must make my boundaries clear," “I must eat healthier foods,” "I must keep him/her blocked," “I must exercise more.”

How to become more comfortable making decisions:

1. Make a List. What are your musts? What must change? What has brought pain into your life? What will bring great pleasure?

2. Say Them Out Loud. Do you feel how much more powerful the musts feel compared to your shoulds? The ‘Should List’ is weak and passive. The ‘Must List’ is strong, vigorous, and energetic, and drives you to take action.

Writing this list isn’t about taking action though. Today, you must decide the things you must change. You know that you are not happy with how things are in your life, but you can’t have it both ways, Queen. If your actions are not aligned with your desires, then you will never feel happy, never feel fulfilled, never feel content.

Today is the best day of your life, Queen, because today is the day everything changes. Today is the day you decide to take action. Happy deciding, Queens!
